Private Healthcare

The private healthcare sector is growing rapidly, with residential care home groups, independent nursing homes and private hospital groups offering quality care services as the National Health Service continues to struggle to cope with the demands placed on it.

Via our distributor customers our products have been going into some of the largest care home groups in the UK for the last 8 years and have a good track record for quality. In partnership with our customers we have designed and manufactured new products which have become part of the regular basket for the care sector.

Both these sectors are set to grow in 2018. The safety sector prior to the start of the period, has had a difficult time. Poor economic conditions decimated investment in construction and manufacturing. Despite the essential nature of safety equipment in these markets, their declining activity levels caused revenue to fall, meaning that the period began from a low base.

Demand for industry products has expanded over the past five years as construction, manufacturing and tougher HSE guidelines rebounded, buoyed by improving economic conditions and government schemes.

This is set to rise again in 2018 with the expected increase in workload from the fallout of the BREXIT discussions. A big part of the above is accounted by the NHS. Its employment increased by 8,000 (0.5%) on the quarter and 33,000 (2.1%) on the year.

Dentistry & Veterinary

Dentistry is extremely resistant to recession, therefore capital investors view it as extremely attractive, as do entrepreneurs, although delivering growth, particularly in the NHS segment is proving to be extremely challenging. Strong growth across the industry is forecast by 2018 UK dentistry will be worth £9 billion, a 14% increase on its current value.

The Veterinary Services industry provides medical advice and treatment primarily for animals in farms and pets. The increase in the number of pets owned over the past five-year period has increased demand for industry services. The expansion of services available and the rising popularity of pet insurance also supported growth. Additionally, the new law making the microchipping of dogs compulsory from April 2016 has boosted revenue growth during the latter part of the period.

However, demand growth from farms remained somewhat restricted, and the cattle population has remained static over the past five years.
